My Honest Feedback

Hi, Alvan here

Thank you for visiting my website. If you are looking for a detail review of the Dyson DC35 multi floor vacuum cleaner then you have come to the right page.

I have been using the Dyson DC35 (Digital Slim) almost everyday and putting it to the test. This is my honest and impartial view so that you can freely decide whether this is something that will work for you. What you will find here in this post are the ESSENTIAL details you need to know before you get your hands on it.

The Most Powerful Lightweight Cordless Vacuum Cleaner?

This my first Dyson vacuum cleaner. After some research and reading many reviews on Dyson vacuum cleaners (some bad but mostly good), I decided to go ahead anyhow to buy it and have not regretted it since.

If you have been searching for a cordless vacuum cleaner that can do some real vacuuming around your house without having to pull those wire out to plug into the wall socket every time you need to use it, this could be what you are looking for. Powering the unit is Dyson very own digital motor that generate more power while using less energy than conventional motor. Combined with the patented Radix CycloneTM technology, it promises no loss of suction as you vacuum. It comes with a 663mm detachable lightweight aluminium wand so you don't have to bend down to pick up those bit and pieces on the floor. It is also very useful for removing those cobwebs at the corner of the ceiling and hard to reach places.

It comes with dual power mode. Max mode (65 air watts) and standard mode (28 air watts). This is one of the most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner around. In my daily usage, I didn’t have to use the max mode at all. The standard mode should be sufficient for most of the work you need it for.

What I like most about the DC35 is the motorised floor tool. The rotating anti-static carbon fibre brush (for hard floor) and the shorter nylon brush (for carpet) does a great job in picking up dust and crumbs. When I first saw it, I thought it's width (8.5”) was smaller than what I would like it to be. It was only when I start using that I realise that any bigger would make it difficult to manoeuvre under the legs of chair and table. The ability to swivel 180 degree also makes moving it into tight spaces a breeze. The brush can be easily removed (with a coin) for cleaning. I was also pleasantly surprise that few hairs got tangled with the brush so maintenance will be easy and minimal (I got much difficulty removing hair from the brush of the vacuum robot I used to have).

Here are more details about the Dyson DC35 and how it works

The Lithium-ion battery takes about 3.5 hrs to fully charge. As you can see from the photo, the battery can be removed from the unit itself for charging if you do not want to use the docking station provided. Charging is indicated by the green light on the charger and automatically switches off when battery is fully charged.

According to Dyson’s website, you can get 15 minutes on regular mode, 13 minutes with motorised floor tool attached and 6 minutes on Max mode. Battery life is one major compliant users had with the previous handheld model DC31. So this is one uncertainty and risk I took when I bought the DC35. As you may know, some claims by manufacturer may not be truly reflective of actual usage. Being a bit apprehensive about the claim, I timed my own usage afew time with the motorised floor tool attached and to my surprise, I was able to get around 16.5 minutes on average. I am not sure why (maybe because mine is mainly used on tiled and hard floor and not carpeted floor) but I am not complaining. In my normal usage, I have not used till the battery is flat out. I am also able to use it to vacuum the entire interior on my car on a full charge.

One wish I had would be the ability to lock the trigger while in use. While I understand it helps to extend battery life with the trigger mechanism especially when used as a handheld to vacuum car for example (you don’t want to keep it on while taking stuff or the car mat out), it can be a bit straining on the finger and forearm after a while when vacuuming the floor as you would want keep going most of the time.

Unlike most handheld, the suction does not decrease as the battery is being used up. The suction remains constant and powerful throughout the entire time it’s on and stop immediately when the battery is flat. As a indication, the green light on top of the vacuum start blinking when it has less than a minute of usage left.

Accessories
It comes with two attachments.
###
1) Combination accessory tool that combine both nozzle & brush tool.
###
2) Crevice tool for those small gaps and tight spaces.

For the price, I wished that at least the extendable hose that’s in the handheld tool kit (see additional accessories below) was included as it will add to its versatility and functionality.

Docking Station
### docking station w 2 attachment
### taking/putting unit at 45 degree
I really like attention to detail Dyson gave to the design of docking station. The two attachments that come with it can be kept at the bottom for easy retrieving. The charging connecter is positioned in such a way that you start charging instantly once the unit is inside. Putting in and taking out the unit out is easy and convenient. To install, you need to drill two holes on the wall to secure it. However, I am able to secure it on my metal rack without drilling by using bolts and nuts (see More Photos below)

Maintenance
### emptying bin
### washable filter
Emptying the bin is a simple one touch push button affair making it quick and hygienic. Most parts can be taken out separately for cleaning. It also comes with a washable filter so there is no replacement cost.

What I did not like about the Dyson DC35?
  • Expensive
  • Should be able to lock the trigger while in use.
  • For the price, should have come with the extendable hose that’s part of the handheld tool kit.
What’s GOOD about the Dyson DC35?
  • Bagless.
  • Lightweight.
  • Washable filter.
  • No loss in suction.
  • Easy to empty bin.
  • Battery can be taken out and charged separately.
  • Convenient. Just take and use. When finish, just put back into the docking station and it will start charging again.
  • Can be use for both carpet and hard floor.
My Conclusion?
The Dyson DC35 is one of the best vacuum around. It is solidly built and of high quality. The ability to function both as a competent floor vacuum as well as a powerful handheld vacuum makes it an excellent all rounder vacuum cleaner. In fact, I find it good enough to be the only vacuum cleaner in my unit now (I threw away my problematic mains powered vacuum soon after I bought the DC35). Having said that, my apartment is around 970 sqft. If your floor area is larger, it might not replace your full sized vacuum cleaner but you certainly won't be using them often as this powerful handheld makes vacuuming so much easier. If it is within your budget, I would definitely recommend the Dyson DC35. You won't be disappointed. Have fun!

I wish you all the best and hope that the information has served you.

Cheers,
Alvan
